Bird Family Brisket

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs. first cut brisket, trimmed
  • 2 envelopes Lipton onion soup mix
  • 2 bottles Heintz chili sauce
  • 1.5 cups water

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.  In a large foil pan or baking dish (this will be hard to clean) mix the onion soup with the chili sauce.  Put the brisket in the sauce and cover tightly with aluminum foil.  Bake 1 hour.  Open the foil and add the water.  Leave in the oven, half covered, for another hour.
  • I slice the brisket (should be thinly sliced) right after I cook it and return to the baking pan.  It lasts a week.  Easy to heat.  Freezes well.  Almost indestructible.
  • PS  A good batch of mashed potatoes is perfect fodder for it.  Jake uses Yukon Gold and it’s definitely an enhancement.
